Hyundai/KIA bearing noises Gear Drive Unit and Traction Motor
At DTS Lopik, we are increasingly seeing electric Kias and Hyundais with an annoying problem: bearing noises in the traction motor and Gear Drive Unit (GDU). In this article, we discuss the Kia Niro EV, Hyundai Ioniq AE EV, and Hyundai Kona OSe EV and explain what causes this problem, which parts are affected, and how we permanently solve it.

Repairing Volvo ERAD couplings

Renault ZOE fast charging
The Renault Zoe is a popular and widely sold electric car in the Netherlands. However, the Zoe is increasingly appearing at DTS Lopik's workshop because the battery cannot be charged. DTS Lopik has investigated what is causing the problem and how it can be solved at a lower cost than at the Renault dealer.

Buzzing and whining noise Audi e-tron electric motor
Audi e-tron owners regularly notice an annoying buzzing and/or whining noise coming from the powertrain. Research shows that in many cases this is caused by worn bearings in the electric motor. In many cases, this problem only occurs after the manufacturer's warranty has expired, which can lead to considerable costs.

Tesla Large Drive Unit – repair and common problems
Electric drives are no longer a black box. During Auto Prof, DTS Lopik will demonstrate how the Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) is repaired in practice — technically sound, reproducible and cost-efficient. The LDU, used in older Tesla Model S and Model X variants, among others, combines an electric motor, reduction gearbox and inverter in a single unit. In practice, we see recurring problems such as bearing wear in the reduction gearbox, internal coolant leakage towards the inverter and failing rotor seals. Complaints range from whining noises to malfunctions and emergency operation. At DTS Lopik, the drive unit is completely dismantled, technically assessed and rebuilt according to fixed procedures. Bearings and seals are replaced, cooling circuits are repaired and the unit is rebuilt while retaining functionality and cooling. No quick fixes, but structural solutions. At the trade fair, we share practical experience: – Which symptoms indicate LDU problems – What can and cannot be repaired – How to recognise damage before total failure – And why timely diagnosis makes the difference between overhaul and complete replacement For independent workshops, this offers concrete tools: more technical control over EV drives and realistic repair options beyond complete unit replacement.
